The Brighton & Hove electric vehicle charger network is now ready for use! Installations and operational configurations continue over the coming weeks, to ensure all installed lamppost charge-points are ‘live’, available on the app, and ready for your use. Drivers will now have a choice of 207 chargers across Brighton & Hove, with chargers available to use with the Electric Blue app.

The importance of charging infrastructure

The project, funded by OLEV and Electric Blue, is part of Brighton & Hove City Council’s commitment to become carbon neutral by 2030. By providing appropriate charging infrastructure, residents are supported in a transition towards more sustainable transport options.

On-street charging is an essential part of accessible charging infrastructure, as many residents do not have access to off-street parking, thus ruling out home chargers.

Along with the on-street chargers, four taxi charging hubs are being installed in:

  • Preston Park
  • Ashton Rise
  • Brighton Racecourse
  • Victoria Road

Alex Calnan, Managing Director of Electric Blue says:

“Along with Brighton & Hove City Council we are pleased to launch this city-wide charging network as an important milestone in the journey to creating Zero Emission Cities. Providing charging infrastructure powered by renewable energy, in locations that drivers need, is one part of the solution. The project now moves into the exciting next phase of engaging with end users to accelerate the transition to net-zero.”

Check your charge!

To avoid any issues with incorrect charging events, we recommend checking with your vehicle to ensure the charge has started correctly. This varies with make and model, but usually involves lights on the dashboard, or consulting the vehicle’s app. For lamppost chargers, the charge point will flash amber during charging.
