We are delighted to announce the growth of the Electric Blue charger network with expansion into the North East. If you are an electric vehicle (EV) driver in this region, you will now be able to charge your vehicle, in less than half an hour, at six new locations across the North East.

These rapid chargers will allow drivers to charge their EVs up to 50kW per hour! Where the chargers are powered by us, we guarantee that our Electric Blue chargers are supplied by 100% renewable energy, meaning the miles you drive really will be emission-free.

The chargers are set to be installed at:

  • Smithy Square Car Park, Cramlington
  • Gateshead Leisure Centre, Gateshead
  • Metro Centre, Gateshead
  • St Nicholas Car Park, Gosforth
  • Wentworth Leisure Centre, Hexham
  • Beaconsfield Car Park, Tynemouth

The first two chargers to be made operational have been installed in Beaconsfield car park, and will be live shortly. Watch this space for updates on the growing NECA network!

The charging infrastructure will be managed and serviced by Electric Blue. All of the new charging stations will have contactless credit card readers to simplify usage and allow for a more seamless charging process. In addition to the 12 newly installed chargers, we are adopting an existing charger in Wentworth Leisure Centre.

“Electric Blue is delighted to be providing the user support services and payment solutions and are particularly excited to be installing our bay monitoring system. This will ensure that the chargers are not misused, by automatically alerting EV drivers and the council of unauthorised vehicles. Improving air quality in our towns and cities is an exciting and important challenge and one that we are committed to achieve by partnering with local authorities and businesses.”

Alex Calnan – CEO, Electric Blue

North East Combined Authority have ambitious plans to tackle the air pollution problem across the region. Urban centres are particular hotspots for congestion, leading to greater levels of harmful emissions circulating in these areas. We are proud to be involved in this project, bringing more sustainable transport options to the population of this region, and improving local air quality.

Find all of our chargers, to include those above, on ZapMap, WattsUp and PlugShare, by setting the network filter to Electric Blue.
